All reputable online boutiques have secure sites that protect the security of your credit card. One way to protect yourself is to always make sure that you are on a secure site when checking out.  When browsing a site the address will begin with http://www.; however when you check out it should begin with https://www.  The “s” signifies you are using a secure site.
